TRAVEL BACK IN TIME
Big BOI Records was started in 2010 by Matt Balogh, and named after an acronym of his band at the time; Blackout Image (B.O.I). The label was started simply for fun and to release local music from friends in the Southern Connecticut music scene. The label would release music with distinct lo-fi and DIY characteristics, often time recorded as unedited "voice memo" recordings, done by a bunch of freshman in High School. Over time, the label has expanded and began to take itself (slightly) more seriously, and began to release more professional recordings of Big BOI artists. Starting fresh at release #50 in 2021, here's an overview of the first 11 years of the label, and the First 49 releases on the label.

#49 Static Charmer - Ashiatsu

Released January 5th, 2018
Genre: Indie Pop/Rock/Emo
Recorded from March - October 2017. Initially started as a Split EP with the band Megaweapon, plans fell through as the other band dropped out. Having two songs already recorded for the EP, "Time and Place" and "This Isn't Home," the band decided to record an entire album. Although the band had been fully established as a 5-piece, Matt Balogh and Tj Redding still recorded the entire album by themselves, similar to their EP Well Clearly..., due to miscommunication and scheduling problems with the band. The band experimented with various genres on this album, and sought to create something different from other indie-pop/rock bands in the Connecticut scene. On June 6th, 5 months after the release of Ashiatsu, the band announced their breakup.
